Take environmental and sanitation cleanliness serious – MCE

Tamale, Jan. 20, GNA – Mr Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive has called on residents of the Metropolis to take environmental and sanitation cleanliness as their topmost priority to enhance their living standards and productivity.
He noted that most of the deaths that occurred in the communities were from malaria and other environmental related disease, which could be prevented through sound environmental practices.
Mr Adam made the call after a clean up exercise at Tamale Central and Aboabo Markets to rid the city of filth in preparation towards Ghana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The assembly in collaboration with the Progressive Traders Association and Zoomlion, a private waste management company organised the exercise.
Mr Adam urged residents to ensure environmental cleanliness, proper sanitation and waste management to maintain safe and sound health.
He observed that sound environmental practices would in addition, help reduce Government’s expenditure on the importation of drugs and channel such monies to other sectors of the economy for development.
Mr Adam announced that the assembly would soon embark on an intensive educational campaign in the metropolis to educate the people on the importance of environmental cleanliness, sanitation and waste management practices.
He said the exercise would be sustained and urged the residents to participate.
